HISTORY

California Market Center (CMC) has a proud history in the global fashion industry as the heartbeat of the Downtown Los Angeles fashion district for more than 60 years.

Built in 1963 by the Morse family, the original California Mart was the first wholesale fashion marketplace west of the Mississippi and has served as the primary center for fashion business on the West Coast until the present day.

$250-million transformation

In 2017, the iconic CMC property was acquired by Brookfield Properties Operated by CBRE and entered an exciting 3-phase, $250-million redevelopment of its campus. With renovations completed in December 2021, the newly transformed CMC is an architecturally award-winning, mixed-use creative complex spanning 1.8-million square feet.

Today, Buildings A & B are reserved for private creative office spaces and studios for renowned fashion and entertainment corporations such as Adidas, AXS, and others, while Building C is home to Showrooms and Events serving the Fashion and Textile industries.

As a prominent Los Angeles events venue, CMC is also host to a year-round calendar of tradeshows, conferences, market pop-ups, and special events.

Today’s CMC continues to build upon its 63-year fashion industry legacy and welcomes a global community of creatives, brand-builders, and visionaries.
